1. Start off with a clean palate. Hair should be washed and completely dry before braiding.
2. For a polished look, set hair with hot rollers so that shorter hairs will lay down and hair ends will have a nice curve.
3. Hair that is straight, soft, or fine will slip and loosen. Get better grip and tighter braids with a fine mist of hairspray. Lift sections of hair and lightly spray throughout.
4. A combination fine and wide tooth comb is essential for braiding hair. Use the wide tooth side for hair penetration, separation, and parting. Use the fine tooth side for smoothing top hairs.
5. Never wrap braids with rubber bands! They tear and fray hair. Instead, use elastics that have a protective coating. Mini metal-free bands require less wrapping - less bulk for cleaner look. When accessorizing, wear hair bands
designed to blend with your haircolor. They virtually disappear under hair accessories.
